Kinetic Solitude
The Shifting Ocean
(2016 – )
Kinetic Solitude explores the ocean at the threshold between day and night, where fading light and relentless motion transform a familiar landscape into something both powerful and unknowable.
Photographed at twilight from within the surf, the images capture brief moments when waves, wind and light align to reveal the ocean’s shifting character. Long exposures and controlled movement dissolve literal description, allowing the sea to become an abstract expression of energy, rhythm and uncertainty rather than a record of a specific place or time.
The absence of people intensifies the sense of solitude, leaving only the continual dialogue between water, light and atmosphere. Through a restrained black-and-white palette, the series reflects on humanity’s relationship with the natural world, inviting viewers to contemplate both its immense beauty and its enduring power.
