Synapse explores the fragile architecture of memory and cognition through abstract photographic constructions inspired by the changing neural connections associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
Created in response to the diagnosis of a close family member, the series reflects on the ways memories are formed, altered and sometimes lost. Layered photographic imagery creates shifting structures that suggest moments of clarity, connection and uncertainty, echoing the dynamic nature of human thought.
Rather than illustrating the experience of Alzheimer’s directly, the photographs use abstraction to evoke the delicate balance between order and disorder within the mind. The series continues my exploration of photography as a means of revealing processes that cannot be seen, inviting reflection on memory, perception and the complexity of human consciousness.
